MONTREAL – The RSEQ (Réseau du sport
étudiant du Québec) is pleased to announce its 2010
university football all-star team.
There are five unanimous picks to the 2010 Quebec University
Football League (QUFL) all-star team, three of which come from the
regular season champion Laval Rouge et Or. Veteran guard Pascal
Baillargeon (St-Anselme, Que.), defensive end Arnaud Gascon-Nadon
(Montreal) and kicker Christopher Milo (Montreal) are joined by
Sherbrooke inside receiver Alexandre Poirier (Victoriaville, Que.)
and linebacker Kevin Régimbald Gagné (Rouyn-Noranda,
Que.) as unanimous selections by the six QUFL coaches for all-star
nominations.
Poirier, a first-time all-star, made 57 catches this season,
including four for touchdowns while racking up 760 yards in nine
games to lead Sherbrooke to a third place finish in the conference.
His teammate Kevin Régimbald Gagné earned the nod at
linebacker for his 4.7 tackle per game average. Defensive end
Arnaud Gascon-Nadon, who transferred to the Rouge et Or from Rice
University, recorded 25 total tackles, including 19 solos and eight
quarterback sacks in his first season in the QUFL. For the second
straight year, kicker Christopher Milo was a unanimous selection to
the all-star team after connecting on 22 of the 26 field goals
attempted in 2010.
University football records fall in 2010
In addition to his impressive 84.6% success rate on field goals,
Milo re-wrote the QUFL record book, establishing a trio of
benchmarks including the most career field goals (69), career
points (385) and conversions (155). Offensively, Sherbrooke
receiver Simon Charbonneau-Campeau (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.)
set a new single season mark for the most receiving yards with
1121, bettering the previous record of 1091 yards held by Jock
Climie of Queen’s University. Climie set his record in 1988
when the season consisted of just seven games.
On the defensive side of the ball, all-star safety Julien Hamel
(Boucherville, Que.) of the Montreal Carabins set the new
conference record for interceptions in a game when he picked off
four Concordia passes in a 21-14 loss on October 22.
The QUFL will hand out its individual awards next Monday morning at
the Centre culturel on the campus of the Université de
Sherbrooke. This year, the RSEQ will present the individual player
and coach of the year awards at the event. The conference will be
webcast live at www.sportetudiant.tv.
