QUEBEC CITY – Bruno Prud'homme threw three touchdown passes to lead the No. 1-ranked Laval Rouge et Or to a 62-0 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters in Quebec University Football League action this afternoon at the PEPS stadium. Laval used a 27-point second quarter to take an insurmountable 36-0 halftime lead, as the Gaiters were never able to get their offence untracked. With the win, Laval (7-0) clinches the QUFL regular-season title, and home field throughout the playoffs.

While Prud'homme completed second-quarter passes to Seydour Junior Haidara and Patrick Lavoie to stake Laval to a 23-0 lead, a defensive score put the game away. Jesse Andrews (Pickering, Ont.) attempted a swing pass out toward Quincy Van De Cruize (Etobicoke, Ont.), which was ruled a lateral, and bounced back to the Bishop's 3. Frederic Plesius picked it up and rumbled in to put the home side up by 30.

Prud'homme threw another touchdown pass to Lavoie early in the fourth quarter, and the Rouge et Or also scored on runs by Pascal Lochard, Guillaume G.Bourassa and Babacar Seye. Three Christopher Milo field goals and a pair of safety touches rounded out the scoring.

Laval outgained Bishop's 539-51, and made 36 first downs, to the Gaiters' nine. The Gaiters committed five turnovers, while Laval made none. Prud'homme finished with 283 passing yards, as he went 23-for-29. Bourassa was Laval's leading rusher, with five carries for 87 yards, with Pascal Lochard carrying 12 times for 71 yards. Ten Laval receivers had catches, led by Victor Tremblay's seven for 93 yards.

For the Gaiters, Andrews went 11-for-15 for 98 yards with an interception. David Haddrall (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaiters' receivers with four catches for 35 yards.

Jermaine Gabriel (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gaiters' defence with nine tackles (seven solo, four assists) and a knockdown. Mathieu Boulay (Magog, Que.) made 7.5 tackles and a sack. The Gaiters made four sacks, with Dan West (Ajax, Ont.), Elie Ngoyi (Sherbrooke, Que.) and Justin Conn (New Maryland, N.B.) also picking up one.

Laval's (7-0) next game is a visit to McGill (0-7) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Gaiters (5-2) remain in second place in the QUFL, and will host the Sherbrooke Vert & Or (3-4) on Saturday afternoon. The game will be telecast on Radio-Canada, the French-language television service of the CBC, and webcast on SSN Canada. Kickoff at Coulter Field is set for 1 p.m.
