Call For Applications: Team Staff for the World University Men’s and Women’s Rugby 7-a-Side Championship
What: World University Men’s & Women’s Rugby
7-a-Side Championship in Brive-La-Gaillarde,
France
When: July 11th- 13th, 2012 (Anticipated travel dates of July
7th to 14th, 2012 inclusive)
Staff should also be prepared to attend various preparatory events,
such as the USA 7s
Tournament held in Las Vegas, NV February 9-12, 2012, the Rugby
Canada University
Sevens tournament, as well as a pre-event training camp in
July.
Who: CIS will be sending both a men’s and women’s
team, each made up of 12 players, 3
staff, 1 therapist and 1 referee. Applications must be sent in
individually; no group
applications will be accepted.
Funding: This opportunity is a self-funded event and, although
efforts are underway to seek
sponsorship, this is not guaranteed. Administration and
organization of the trip will be
facilitated through CIS International Programs Services.
Positions: There are four staff positions to be filled per team:
(1) Team Leader; (2), Head Coach;
(3) Assistant Coach; and (4) Therapist.
Criteria:
Team Leader
a) Previous international or national team experience as a coach,
manager or athlete.
b) Previously demonstrated strong administrative and communications
skills.
c) Bilingual (preferred)
Head Coach
a) Previous international or national team experience as a coach in
7-a-side rugby.
b) Previous head coach experience in other team environments
(including the postsecondary
level).
c) NCCP level 3 coaching certification (or higher).
d) Previous experience at a FISU or similar event is considered an
asset.
e) Bilingual (preferred).
Assistant Coach
a) Previous experience as a coach in 7-a-side rugby.
b) Previous coaching experience at the post-secondary level.
c) NCCP level 3 coaching certification (or higher).
d) Bilingual (preferred).
Therapist
a) Previous international or national team or post-secondary
experience with rugby.
b) Current member of the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association
(CATA) or Sport
Physiotherapy Canada (SPC).
c) Bilingual (preferred).
Applicants for these positions:
1) Must be committed to providing a positive international sporting
experience for the players of Team Canada.
2) Coaches and team leader must be active men’s or
women’s rugby coaches at a Canadian post secondary
institution.
3) Must be able and willing to pay the full costs of participation,
including preparatory events and camps. Total cost is estimated at
a maximum of $3,000.
4) Must be available to participate at the World University
Championship tournament (July 11 to 14) as well as various
preparation events, including a pre-competition training camp.
5) Must be willing to participate in event organization, including
liaising with Team Canada players prior to the event to ensure that
they are properly prepared for the World Championships.
Applicants must submit a covering letter and a brief resumé of their rugby experience, particularly relating to 7-a-side rugby, as well as indicate what position they are applying for by November 9th, 2011 via e-mail to:

Selection details: The selection committee will be composed of members of the CIS Women’s Rugby Coaches Association and Rugby Canada. The head coach will be selected by November 14th, 2011 and will join the selection committee in choosing the remaining members of the team staff. The successful remaining candidates will be selected by November 21st, 2011 and contacted shortly thereafter.
