DAY 3 RESULTS
Team Canada closed the 3rd day of competition at the 9th
World University Wrestling Championships with three podium
finishes.
Brittanee Laverdure, representing the University
of Calgary, beat opponents from Turkey, Poland and Ukraine to take
the gold medal in the 55 kg weight class. Jasmine
Mian, from Brock University lost to Japan and then came
back in the repechage rounds to beat Mongolia and Turkey for the
bronze medal in the 48 kg weight class. Jazmyne
Barker from the University of Calgary lost to Turkey early
in the day, but bounced back in the repechage to beat the Czech
Republic to claim the bronze medal in the 59 kg weight class.
Stacie Anaka from Simon Fraser University had a
win against Spain followed by a loss to Ukraine to finish in 8th
place in the 63 kg weight class. Leah Callahan,
representing the University of Calgary, lost to Russia in the 72 kg
weight class to finish in 8th place.
Final team standings result in a 2nd place finish for the Canadian
Women’s Team.

DAY 2 RESULTS
Team Canada closed the 2nd day of competition at the 9th
World University Wrestling Championships with two podium
finishes.
Genevieve Haley, representing the University of
Calgary, beat opponents from Ukraine, Turkey, Japan and Russia to
take the gold medal in the 51 kg weight class. Elisabeth
Williams, from Concordia University beat Poland and Russia
before losing to the United States to claim the silver medal.
On the men’s side, Raj Virdi, from Simon
Fraser University, lost to Russia and finished in 11th place in the
60 kg weight class. Representing the University of Saskatchewan,
Daniel Olver lost to Japan to claim 14th place in
the 74 kg weight class. Rounding out the competitors was
Ali Al-Rekabi from Simon Fraser University who
lost to Bulgaria to finish in 8th place in the 96 kg weight
class.

completion of four freestyle weight classes.
David Tremblay, from Concordia University, lost to
Japan to finish 10th in the 55kg weight class. In the 66 kg weight
class, Ben Sayah, from University of New
Brunswick, lost to Ukraine to finish 14th. Alex
Burk, representing University of Calgary, lost to the
United States to finish in 11th in the 84 kg weight class. And
Kyle Grant, representing University of Guelph,
lost to Iran to finish in 10th in the 120 kg weight class.
