Job Title: Physical Therapist
Department: University of Saskatchewan
College of Kinesiology (Huskie Athletics)

Status: 1.0 FTE; Term, three years, with the possibility of extension
Salary Information: The salary range is $59,517 to $92,996 per annum (Specialist Professional Phase 2). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Physical Therapist will work out of the Huskie Athletics Sport Health Centre to provide physiotherapy services to Huskie student-athletes and fee-for-service public clients.

NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Athletic Director, this position provides physical therapy services to support Huskie Athletics programming and service to fee-for-service clientele. This is a high volume position and requires the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, multitasking to balance athletics and private practice schedules. Effective communication with all stakeholders including student-athletes, coaches, health care practitioners, administrative personnel and the community is essential. Some evenings and weekends are required throughout the athletic season.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 Provide evidence supported sport physiotherapy/athletic therapy to varsity athletes including emergency on field care, accurate and timely assessment, rehabilitation, post-operative care, return to sport progressions and injury prevention;
 Work with members of the Huskie Health Care Coalition collaborating in the care and management of athlete injuries to support quick diagnosis and timely and safe return to sport;
 Educate student-athletes and student-trainers on the Canadian Anti-doping program (CADP) and other health care topics associated with participation in Huskie Athletics;
 Knowledgeable about policy to limit risk associated with athletes and teams including medical screening, insurance requirements, event coverage, return to play decision making.
 Effectively organize and maintain facility and equipment needs for a sport health clinic and assigned varsity athletic teams;
 Effectively coordinate and communicate with athletes, student trainers, coaches, administrative personnel and other health care team members to meet the overall needs of our student-athletes and their return to play;
 Ensure that financial resources and expenditures are managed in a manner that complies with University policy;
 Effectively coordinate all aspects of medical coverage for regional and national championships for those teams for whom they are responsible;
 Provide a high standard of quality teaching in labs and practicums.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Master of Physical Therapy/BScPT or equivalent; eligible for licensure with the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapists; valid First Aid, CPR and Sport First Responder Certification and membership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPS) is encouraged. A certificate in Sport Physiotherapy is preferred.

Experience: Experience in the area of orthopedic and sports physiotherapy; previous private practice experience; past experience within a university athletic program is an asset.
Skills: Proven success to effectively manage a busy sports/orthopedic case load; knowledge of university athletics; proven ability to work as a member of a team; effective communication skills; demonstrated ability to supervise support staff and volunteers, and familiarity with basic bookkeeping.

Manager of Sports Medicine

(Regular full-time Position)

Bishop's University is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill a regular full-time position as Manager of Sports Medicine in the Department of Athletics & Recreation. Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Recreation, the incumbent will be accountable for all services related to the operation of the Sports Medicine Clinic and the therapeutic treatments involved in the prevention, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of sports injuries. The incumbent will also provide in-service training, scheduling, and management of all other therapists, and coordinate all therapy services necessary for student athletes and the general public that choose to use the services offered in our clinic.

The Manager of Sports Medicine will be responsible for the development, planning, scheduling, staffing and budget for the Sports Medicine Clinic; as well as the recruitment (contract, part-time, student and volunteer), training, evaluation, and management of all therapists. The incumbent must be either present at practices, home and away games of varsity teams or appoint a qualified therapist to these events. Immediate emergency care may include prophylactic and supportive taping, injury assessment, life support, recognition and management of head and spinal injuries, first aid, and/or implementation of the emergency action plan including interaction with the appropriate health care delivery systems such as the local hospitals.

The incumbent shall also be responsible for the clinic’s records including records of staff; qualifications; maintaining a therapists' manual with policies on procedures and operations; submitting and monitoring staff payroll information; patient records; visiting practitioners (doctors, physiotherapists, etc.) files and invoicing. Finally, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Director of Health Services on policies and procedures related to the Health, Safety & Wellbeing of Varsity Athletes. This position has a work week of 32.5 hours, with a flexible schedule including nights and weekends as necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

 Undergraduate degree with a specialization in athletic therapy or physiotherapy,

 Certified therapist and member in good standing with one of the provincial therapy associations;

 Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role;

 Excellent organizational, analytical, and planning skills;

 Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment;

 Ability to work in a complex, ever-changing environment;

 Capacity to work on many dossiers concurrently and to meet deadlines;

 Excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy in dealing with a varied clientele;

 Bilingualism is required (French & English).

Classification: *Class 17 / $28.60 to $37.32 per hour depending on experience

Reporting to the Coordinator, Home Events, you will be a member of the Marketing, Communication and Event Unit of the Queen’s Athletics and Recreation Department.

As the Home Events Assistant, you will contribute towards the successful operation of all hosted events at Queen’s University Athletics & Recreation.  In conjunction with the Marketing, Communications and Events (MCE) Unit, you will ensure that all home events are well staffed, and put on in a professional manner in accordance with OUA/CIS regulations. In conjunction with the Coordinator, Home Events, you will engage an effective student event team, supervising the team to ensure event preparation, on-site supervision and post event requirements are carried out at the highest possible standards.

You will bring with you a desire to work in the field of event planning and/or public relations within the sports industry.  You will possess excellent organizational, leadership, verbal and written communication skills, strong knowledge of a variety of sports, and have the ability to work varying hours as well as weekends.

The Home Events internship begins in mid-August and runs until early December (4 months). The successful candidate will receive $15.00/hour and will work full-time hours during the duration of the internship.

Responsibilities

To act as head coach and administrator of an interuniversity sports team; to assist with the administration of a variety of departmental programs and services.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a post-secondary degree program with a focus on Physical Education in a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience as a coach and/or athlete at an elite level is required. N.C.C.P Level III certification or equivalent is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience establishing, administering and maintaining an aggressive recruiting program (on and off campus) for an interuniversity sports team program is required. Sports administration experience would be beneficial.

Strong leadership and organizational skills are required to organize, administer and coach the team within the Ontario Universities Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) leagues; follow league rules and regulations; participate in league contests; attend all OUA Coaches’ meetings as required.

Excellent judgment and decision-making skills are needed to analyze competitive systems; develop and adjust team offensive and defensive systems; compile and analyze team statistical and historical information.

Strong management and motivational skills to counsel, support, advise and monitor team members academic performance; assist with time management, goal setting, etc; assign and coordinate work of part-time support staff.

A demonstrated commitment to client service - specifically students, staff, faculty and external contacts. Excellent interpersonal skills to promote the women’s hockey program within Ryerson and the community; liaise with internal departments such as Admissions and Student Services; maintain on- and off-campus media contacts.

Strong budget management skills are needed to plan, monitor and operate within allocated team budget guidelines; providing recommendations for future budgets.

The Men’s Basketball Coach is responsible for all duties normally associated with the successful delivery and co-ordination of an interuniversity basketball program including but not restricted to: program administration, recruitment of student-athletes, fundraising and other duties as required to support a successful university men’s basketball program. 

Qualifications
1.  Evidence of sufficient expertise and experience to deliver a men’s basketball program to high performance student athletes including development of a program of recruitment and retention in compliance with University of Regina, CIS and Canada West rules and regulations.
2. Minimum undergraduate degree and Level 3 NCCP program is required.
3. Coaching experience at a university or other elite level of basketball.
4. Strong communication, organizational, administrative, management and computer skills.
5. Ability to develop and implement fund raising initiatives designed to enhance the delivery of the basketball program.
