The Road to the CIS Championships
How Teams Qualify for the 2010 Women’s Volleyball Championship


The Women’s Volleyball Championship will be hosted by the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. The championship is an eight-team single game elimination format, played over three days, March 5-7, 2010. The participating teams include a representative from each Regional Association: AUS, QSSF, OUA and Canada West. The Alberta Pandas receive a berth as the host team. The sixth and seventh teams are assigned two berths from Canada West. The eighth team is an assigned berth from QSSF.

OUA
The top four teams from the East and West division will make playoffs. The playoffs will consist of (2) quarterfinal single elimination matches held on February 20, 2010. All matches will be a best three of five sets.

The winner from each match will advance to the Final Four. The host will be the team with the best record at either the East or West division after the quarterfinals. The Final Four semi-finals will be held February 26, 2010.

East (1 vs. 4) winner vs. West (2 vs. 3)

East (2 vs. 3) winner vs. West (1 vs. 4)

The winner of each semi-final match will advance to the OUA Final on February 27, 2010. The losers will advance to the Bronze medal game held on the same date. The winner of the OUA Final will advance to the CIS Championship.

AUS
The top 6 teams make playoffs with the top 2 teams receiving a bye the first round. The Quarterfinals will be held February 19, 2010. The semi-finals will be held February 20, 2010 followed by the Championship match held February 21, 2010. The winner will advance to the CIS Championship.

QSSF
The top three teams make playoffs, with the first place team receiving a bye to the finals. The semi-final (best of three) will be held from February 12-14, 2010. The winner will advance to the final (best of three) against the first place team from February 19-26, 2010. The two finalists will advance to the CIS Championship.

Canada West
The top 7 teams are ranked based on league play and advance to the playoffs. The first place team receives a bye and hosts the final four. The matches will consist of a best of three series between the following teams:

The winner of each match will advance to the Final Four where a gold and bronze medal game will be played. The two finalists and the bronze medal match winner will advance to the CIS Championship. In the event that Alberta wins the OUA Championship and plays in the CIS Championship the top four finalists will advance to the CIS Championship.
