The Road to the CIS Championships
How Teams Qualify for the 2010 Women’s Ice Hockey Championship


The Women’s Ice Hockey Championship will be hosted by St.Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia from March 11-14, 2010. The championship consists of six teams (two pools of 3 teams). Each team will play two (2) games with the top teams in each pool playing for gold; the second place in each pool playing for bronze and third place teams playing for 5th place. The participating teams include a representative from each Regional Association: AUS, QSSF, OUA and Canada West. The St. Francis Xavier X-Women will receive a berth as the host team. The sixth team is an assigned berth from QSSF.

OUA
The top six teams make playoffs with the top two teams receiving a first round bye. The first round of playoffs (quarterfinals) will be a single game elimination held on February 20, 2010. A semi-final (best of three) will be held for each division from February 24-28, 2010.

Lowest ranked team @ #1 Lowest remaining team @ #2

A final (best of three) will be held for the remaining two teams from March 3-7, 2010. The winner will represent OUA in the CIS Championship.

AUS
The top six teams make playoffs with the top two teams receiving a first round bye. The winner of the AUS Championship will represent AUS in the CIS Championship.

QSSF
The top four teams advance to playoffs (best of three) in a semi-final series.

The winning teams will advance to the finals (best of three). Both finalists will advance to the CIS Championship.

Canada West
The top 4 teams at the conclusion of league play will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs (best of three) will consist of the following games in a semi-final series commencing February 26, 2010:

The winner from each series will advance to the Canada West final held March 5-7, 2010. The winner will advance to the CIS Championship.
