2009-10 OUA West major awards and all-stars announced
HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased
to announce its West major award winners and all-stars for women's
basketball.
Amanda Anderson (Dover Centre, Ont.) of the
Western Mustangs is the West player of the year. The fifth-year
guard led all players in the division with 388 points, an average
of 18.0 points per game. She is one of OUA's top scorers from
behind the three-point arc with a 40.8 percent success rate on
60-of-147 attempts. Anderson also contributed 91 rebounds, 68
assists and 41 steals. She also led OUA with an 84.4 percent free
throw percentage on 54-of-64 attempts shooting from the charity
stripe. Anderson is a West first-team all-star.
Windsor Lancers forward Jessica Clemencon (St.
Rambert, France) is the West rookie of the year. Clemencon made a
tremendous impact in her OUA debut, also being named a West
first-team all-star. She led all rookies in scoring with 313
points, third among all West players. She also led first-year
players with 146 rebounds. Her 49.5 percent field goal percentage
on 104-of-210 shooting ranked her fifth in all of OUA. Clemencon
was second among West players with 26 blocks, first among rookies.
She also tallied 37 assists and 15 steals. Clemencon is a member of
the West all-rookie team.
Fourth-year post/wing Renata Adamczyk
(Greensville, Ont.) of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks is the West
defensive player of the year for the second straight season.
Adamczyk led all of OUA with 64 steals, an average of 2.91 per
game. She also grabbed 135 rebounds, 86 off the defensive glass.
Adamczyk also made seven blocks. Offensively, she contributed 308
points and 50 assists. Adamczyk is also a West first-team
all-star.
Fourth-year point guard Reanne Holden
(Peterborough, Ont.) of the Waterloo Warriors is the West recipient
of the Joy Bellinger Award, presented annually to a female
student-athlete in recognition of outstanding service to the sport
and to the advancement of university athletics. The fourth-time
academic all-Canadian in honours chemistry volunteers with the
University of Waterloo Well Fit program, implementing individual
exercise programs for recovering cancer patients. Holden is also
part of Waterloo Athletics Team-Up elementary school outreach
program as well as a mentor coach with Special Olympics. Holden was
involved in a pair of international missions with the Global Youth
Network as part of humanitarian aid teams sent to Tanzania and
Brazil.
For the second straight year, Chantal
Vallée of the Windsor Lancers is the West coach of
the year. After suffering a couple of key losses in West all-stars
Dranadia Roc and Alisa Wulff, the Lancers have picked up where they
left off 2009, going 21-1 against OUA opponents, duplicating last
season's record. The Lancers finished on top of the OUA standings
for a second straight season, and reached as high as No. 2 in the
national rankings.
Guards Tasia McKenna (Timberlea, N.S.) of the
Lakehead Thunderwolves and Taylor Smith (Hamilton,
Ont.) of the McMaster Marauders join Anderson, Clemencon and
Adamczyk as OUA West first-team all-stars.
OUA West second-team all-stars include McMaster forward
Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton, Ont.), Lakehead forward
Lindsay Druery (Smithville, Ont.), Western forward
Katelyn Leddy (London, Ont.), Windsor guard
Shavaun Reaney (Sherwood Park, Alta.) and Brock
Badgers forward Lauren Stewart (Hamilton,
Ont.).
Joining Clemencon on the West all-rookie team is Windsor guard
Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor, Ont.), McMaster
forwards Jaklynn Nimec (Binbrook, Ont.) and
Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.), and
Western guard Beckie Williams (London, Ont.).
OUA West award winners and all-stars in men's basketball will be
announced on Wednesday.
