QUARTERFINAL :#1 CIS championship: Laval off to great start at nationals

KAMLOOPS, BC (CIS)-The Laval Rouge et Or proved why they are the number one ranked team in CIS Men's Volleyball. Laval opened up the 2010 CIS Men's Nationals at the Tournament Capital Center with an easy 3-0 win over the 8 th seeded University of Montreal Carabins. The scores were 25-20,25-20,25-18.

CIS Men's VBall Finals Q1 Montreal vs Laval - Quarter Final 1

The Rouge et Or led from start to finish. They were tested briefly in the second and third sets when Montreal had tied the score both times at 11.

First team CIS All Canadian Frederic Desbiens (3rd year, La Malbaie, Que) led the way with 13 kills in 26 chances. CIS All Rookie team selection Frederic Mondeau (1st year, Vercheres, Que) had 13 kills. Justin Boudreault (2nd year, Dolbeau, Que) had 41 assists and nine digs.

For Montreal: Dale Iwanoczko Award Winner Emmanual Andre-Morin (4thyear, Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, Que) had 16 kills in 40 chances. Vincent Dumais (5 th year, Woodstock, Ont) had 37 assists. Marc Langois (5th year, Kirkland Lake, Ont) had 15 digs.

Laval will play the winner of a match at 3 pm (PDT) which has Queen's University Gaels of the OUA meeting up with the Trinity Western Spartans of the Canada West. They played this match without the services of FSQE Player of the Year Karl De Grandpre (3rd year, Pierreville, Que). He was rested.

Montreal will face the loser of that match on Saturday (Mar 13).
