2009-10 AUS all-stars announced

HALIFAX, NS - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2009-10 men's volleyball all-stars as selected by the conference's three head coaches. Four of the six all-star selections this season went to the CIS No. 3 ranked Dalhousie Tigers.

The Tigers finished in first place with a 16-2 record this season with their only losses coming in interlock play to the Laval Rouge et Or, currently the number one ranked team in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

Max Burt, Sander Ratsep, Devon Parkinson and Erik Montgomery were the four Dalhousie players honoured. Burt, Ratsep and Montgomery are each AUS all-stars for the second time in their careers while Parkinson is a first time all-star selection.

Burt, a fourth year middle blocker from Gander, NL, led the conference in hitting percentage (0.395), blocks (1.59 per game) and aces (0.48 per game). He finished second in AUS kills (2.95 per game), second in scoring (4.40 points per game) and his 1.59 blocks per game was also tops in CIS. Ratsep (London, ON), the 2008-09 Atlantic conference Most Valuable Player, led the AUS in scoring (4.62 points per game) and kills (3.84 per game).

The second place UNB Varsity Reds are represented on the all-star squad by fourth year middle Jacob Kilpatrick (Saint John, NB) and fourth year right side Tyler Veenhuis (South Branch, NS), the 2005-06 AUS Rookie of the Year.

Kilpatrick, the 2008-09 AUS nominee for the Dale Iwanoczko Award (outstanding achievement in volleyball, academics and community involvement), ranked second in blocks with 1.13 per game, fourth in hitting percentage (0.281) and sixth in scoring (2.75 points per game). Veenhuis, the 2005-06 AUS Rookie of the Year, led the V-Reds in kills (2.56 per game), scoring (3.15 points per game) and digs (3.16 per game).

The 2010 Subway Atlantic University Sport men's volleyball championship is a best two-of-three series between the Dalhousie Tigers (16-2) and the UNB Varsity Reds (9-9), and begins this Friday at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.

The championship schedule is as follows:

Friday, February 26th
- Game 1: UNB at Dalhousie, 7pm

Sunday, February 28th
- Game 2: Dalhousie at UNB, 2pm

Saturday, March 6th
- Game 3: UNB at Dalhousie, 2pm* (*if necessary)
