The Road to the CIS Championships
How Teams Qualify for the 2010 Men’s University
Cup
The Men’s Ice Hockey Championship will be hosted by Lakehead
University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Six teams compete in round
robin play (2 pools of 3 teams) over 4 days. Each team will play
two games with the winner of each pool advancing to the
championship final. The participating teams include a
representative from the Regional Association: AUS, OUA, Canada
West, and QSSF (Participates in the OUA Sport Conference –
East Division). The Lakehead Thunderwolves will receive a berth as
the host team. The sixth team is an assigned berth rotating from
Canada West.
OUA
The top eight teams from the East and West divisions make playoffs.
The first round of playoffs (best of three) take place from
February 17-21, 2010.

A quarterfinal (best of three) will be held for each division from
February 24, 2010 to February 28, 2010. Teams will be re-seeded and
the highest seed receives home ice.

A semi-final (best of three) will be held for the remaining two
teams in each division from March 3- 7, 2010. The winner of each
semi-final game will advance to the single game Queen’s Cup
Championship on March 13, 2010. In the event that the Lakehead
Thunderwolves win the OUA Championship and receive the berth as
host team, the second place team will be the assigned berth.
AUS
The top six teams make playoffs with the top two teams receiving a
first round bye. The quarterfinals (best of three) will be held
from February 17- 21, 2010. The semi-finals and Championship series
(best of five) follow. The winner of the AUS Championship will
represent AUS in the University Cup.
QSSF
The QSSF teams participate in the OUA East Division.
Canada West
The top 4 teams at the conclusion of league play advance to the
playoffs. The playoffs (best of three) will consist of the
following games in a semi-final series March 5-7, 2010:

The winner from each series will advance to the Canada West final
held March 18-20 or 19-21, 2010. Both finalists will advance to the
University Cup.
