The Road to the CIS Championships
How Teams Qualify for the 2010 CIS Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship

The Men’s Basketball Championship will be hosted by Carleton University at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario. The championship is an eight team, single elimination event, played over three days, March 19-21, 2010. The participating teams include a representative from each Regional Association: AUS, QSSF, OUA and Canada West. The Carleton Ravens receive a berth as the host team. The sixth and seventh teams are assigned berths from both the OUA and Canada West regions. The eighth team is an at-large berth selected based on 9 criteria.

OUA
The top six teams from the East and West divisions make playoffs. The top 2 teams from each division receive a first round bye. A quarterfinal is held for each division on February 27, 2010 between the 6th place team at 3rd place, and the 5th place team at 4th place. A semi-final game will be held on March 6, 2010 for each division between lower ranked quarterfinal winner at 1st place and remaining quarterfinal winner at 2nd place. The winner of the semi-final games from each division will advance to the Wilson Cup on March 13, 2010, and gain an automatic berth into the CIS Championship. A bronze medal game will be held to determine the third OUA berth in the event that Carleton wins their division and plays in the Wilson Cup.

AUS
The top six teams make playoffs with the top two teams receiving a first round bye. The quarterfinals will be held on March 12, 2010, followed by the semi-finals on March 13, 2010. The winner of the AUS Championship game held on March 14, 2010 will represent AUS in the CIS Final 8.

QSSF
The top four teams make playoffs. The winner of the final game on March 5, 2010 will represent QSSF in the Final 8.

Canada West
The top 4 teams in the Prairie Division and the top 3 teams in the Pacific Division advance to playoffs along with a 4th place wildcard team. The wildcard team will be selected between the 5th place team in the Prairie Division and the 4th place team in the Pacific division.

Round 1 of playoffs commence on February 26, 2010 and will consist of the following games:

Prairie #3 @ Pacific #2 Pacific #3 @ Prairie #2
Prairie #4 @ Pacific #1 Wildcard @ Prairie #1

The winners from each of the above games will advance to the Final Four where each team will be seeded one through four. The top seed will host the Final Four from March 5 –6, 2010. On March 5, 2010 two semi-final games will be held: #4 vs. #1, and #3 vs. #2. The winner of each semi-final game will meet in the gold medal game on March 6, 2010. The winner of the gold medal game will represent Canada West and the silver medal team will be assigned berth Canada West.
