CIS football: UofC's Lefebvre claims Gino Fracas award
Québec, QC – In 1976 Pierre Lefebvre’s
university coaching career got started with the Saint Mary’s
University as the Defensive Back coach. Pierre has coached with
Saint Mary’s from 1976-1979 then again from 1985 – 1997
where the team was the Atlantic Bowl Champions/Vanier Cup Finalist
in 1988/1989/1991/1992.
He rejoined the club in 2001 as the Defensive Assistant/Special
Teams Coordinator until 2006. This
time he the team had won the Atlantic Bowl in 2001, Churchill Bowl
in 2002, Loney Bowl in 2003 and the Vanier Cup in 2001 and 2002.
Currently Pierre is the Special Team’s Coordinator for the
University of Calgary Dinos, he joined the team in 2008 and two
consecutive years have won the Hardy Cup Champions. 2009 Uteck Bowl
Champions.
During these very successful years coaching university in from
1979-1983 was the Defensive Coordinator for St-Pat’s High
School as well from 1997-1999 initiated and coached at Charles P
Allen High School. In 2002 and 2003 Pierre was the Head Coach of
Team Nova Scotia during the Under 19 Football Canada Cup.

has given a large part of his life to the sport of football at all
levels, and I’m sure Coach Fracas would approve of his

Calgary Dinos 2009 celebrates the life of Gino Fracas and his
lifetime of contributions to the game of football. The award was
created by Football Canada to pay recognition to the assistant
coach that provides endless hours to improve the experience for the
players and to support the other coaches. This award will ensure we
continue to be able to recognize Gino’s legacy within the
game of football as it also continues to recognize the contribution
of the assistant coach.
This award is named to honour a man who has made a lifetime of
outstanding contributions to amateur football. Gino Fracas moved
right into a coaching role after his days with the Edmonton Eskimos
with the University of Alberta head coach position. He led them to
three league championships in the next four years. In 1963 his team
won the Golden Bowl, the unofficial university National
Championship and he also appeared in the very first Canadian
College Bowl in 1965.
Gino has received many accolades for his contributions both as a
player and coach. He was highly respected and admired for his
dedication and commitment to the great sport of Canadian
football.
