Brock women's curling opens CIS/CCA National Championships with 3-0 record

EDMONTON, AB - The Brock University women's curling team (11-3 overall, 3-0 Nationals) finished off Day One of the CIS/CCA National Championships with a perfect 3-0 record posting victories over Calgary (8-2), Manitoba (7-6) and the Western Mustangs (8-7).

To open the Nationals, the Brock team consisting of sophomore year skip Courtney Hodgson (Guelph, Ont.), sophomore lead Lauren Wasylkiw (Kleinburg, Ont.) and freshmen trio of second Joanne Curtis (Brampton, Ont.), third Jessica Corrado (Etobicoke, Ont.) and alternate Korie Kidd (Niagara Falls, Ont.) added six points in the final four ends cruising to an 8-2 victory over the Calgary Dinos.

Versus Manitoba, Brock came from behind to register their second straight victory. Trailing 6-5 after eight ends, Brock added one point in the 9th and stole one point in the 10th to defeat the Bisons 7-6.

In their final match of the day versus OUA bronze medallist Western Mustangs, the Badgers trailed 7-5 after seven ends before answering with two in the 8th and one in the 10th for the 8-7 victory.

Brock has two round robin matches remaining versus Regina (2-1) at 2:00 pm Friday and St. Mary's (3-0) at 8:00am Saturday morning. The top two teams from each pool advances.
