BlackBerry CIS athletes of the week: Windsors Clemencon, Saskatchewans Glover honoured
OTTAWA (CIS) – Basketball players Jessica Clemencon of
Windsor and Showron Glover of Saskatchewan are the BlackBerry
Canadian Interuniversity Sport female and male athletes of the week
for the period ending January 10, 2010.
Clemencon, a first-year arts and English student from St. Rambert,
France, averaged 28.5 points per game this past week as the No.
2-ranked Lancers improved to 10-0 in OUA conference play with a
94-81 win over Western Ontario and an 80-73 overtime victory
against Brock. The 6-foot-3 forward, who ranks sixth in the nation
averaging 18.4 points per outing, tallied 36 points on 14-of-19
shooting last Wednesday against the Mustangs and followed up with a
21-point, 15-rebound double-double on Saturday in the OT win over
the Badgers.
Moncton hockey player Kristine Labrie, McGill hockey player Cathy
Chartrand and Manitoba basketball player Kait Flett were also
nominated for the women’s award.
Glover, a fourth-year student from Fresno, California, averaged a
remarkable 39 points per game as the Huskies (5-5) split a
doubleheader against visiting BC rivals. The senior guard opened
the weekend with a 35-point, 12-rebound double-double in a 98-87
loss to Trinity Western (6-3) on Friday, and then netted a
season-high 43 points in a 102-81 win over Simon Fraser (7-2) the
following night. Glover leads Canada West and is second in CIS with
a 26.8-point-per-game average.
Basketball players Joey Haywood of Saint Mary’s, Adil El
Makssoud of UQAM and Josh Gibson-Bascombe of Ottawa were the other
male nominees.
